Using low dose x-ray speckle visibility spectroscopy to study dynamics of soft matter samples

چکیده

We demonstrate the successful application of X-ray Speckle Visibility Spectroscopy (XSVS) experiments to study dynamics radiation sensitive, biological samples with unprecedentedly small doses 45 Gy and below. Using XSVS, we track casein micelles in native, concentrated, acidified solution conditions, while substantially reducing deposited dose as compared alternative techniques like sequential photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS). The Brownian motion a skim milk sample yields hydrodynamic radius deviations from characteristic $q$-dependent diffusion coefficient $D(q)$ can be observed more concentrated conditions. low applied our allows observation static, frozen speckle patterns gelled acidic milk. show that XSVS technique is especially suitable for tracking sensitive combination improved coherent properties new generation sources, emphasizing great potential further investigations protein using fourth synchrotrons free electron lasers.

Speckle-Visibility Spectroscopy: A Tool to Study Time-Varying Dynamics

We describe a multispeckle dynamic light scattering technique capable of resolving the motion of scattering sites in cases that this motion changes systematically with time. The method is based on the visibility of the speckle pattern formed by the scattered light as detected by a single exposure of a digital camera. Whereas previous multispeckle methods rely on correlations between images, her...

Effect of low dose X-ray on membrane fluidity of thalassemic red blood cells

Background: Chest X-ray is one of the examinations required for an annual health checkup. The interaction of radiation to the medium produces free radicals, which consequently causes biological changes either structural or properties of the cells. Whether the radiation from Chest X-ray upright technique affects the plasma membrane fluidity of thalassemic red blood cells (RBCs) is still unclear....

Structure and dynamics of hemeproteins using X- ray Absorption Spectroscopy

Experimental investigations on protein dynamics are usually carried out in solution; however, in most cases, the determination of protein structure is done by crystallography that relies on the diffraction properties of the protein arranged in a three-dimensional lattice. X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) is an ideal tool to investigate the deep relationships between structure and dynamics, o...

Multi-speckle X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy in the ultra-small-angle X-ray scattering range

Multi-speckle X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS) measurements in the ultra-small-angle range are performed using a long pinhole collimation instrument in combination with two-dimensional photon-counting and high-sensitivity imaging detectors. The feasibility of the presented setup to measure dynamics on different time and length scales pertinent to colloidal systems is shown. This set...

X-ray radiation and the risk of multiple sclerosis: Do the site and dose of exposure matter?

Background: The sporadic cases of radiation-activated multiple sclerosis (MS) has been previously described, with a few studies focused on the relationship between radiation and the risk of MS. The aim of our study was to evaluate the association between history of X-ray radiation and MS.   Methods : This case-control study was conducted on 150 individuals including 65 MS patients and 85 age-...
